Sophomore guard Derek Akers scored a game-high 17 points as the Seymour High School junior-varsity boys’ basketball team emerged from the holiday break with a victory last Tuesday, Jan. 26, defeating Class 5 opponent Reeds Spring in a 42-37 home thriller.
The host Tigers led most of the way.
Seymour and the visiting Wolves were tied at 10-10 after the first frame, then the Tigers took a 21-15 lead by halftime.
The Tiger lead was 32-25 after three quarters.
Reeds Spring had cut Seymour’s lead to a single point with about a minute left in the game when junior forward Ivan Whited, a 5’11” junior, connected on a three-pointer to increase the Tiger edge to four points.
Classmate Cooper Bunch joined Akers in the double-figure scoring column for the Tigers with 12 points, while Whited scored 8.
Freshman Luke Rasmussen added 3 points.

Next action for the Tigers arrives this Friday when the Patriots from School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout visit.
This will be a four-game night, featuring two quarters each of junior-varsity boys’ and girls’ action, followed by a full varsity girls’ contest and a full varsity boys’ game.
Games get under way at 5 p.m.
