Since Seymour High School added fall softball two decades ago, the Tigers never have had a player earn Class 2 All-Region accolades.

That streak ended last week.

A pair of Tiger standouts, senior catcher Crystal Misemer and junior outfielder Shay Moore, each earned second-team Class 2 All-Region honors in voting by coaches in districts 1 and 2, Seymour head coach Glenn Dawson said.

“Each of them earned it,” Dawson noted.

Both were first-team selections for the all-Summit Conference and all-district squads.

Misemer, a four-year letterwinner, was the Tigers’ starting catcher the past three seasons, including this past campaign, when Seymour won a school-record 11 games and advanced to the district semifinals.

She led the Tigers with a .545 batting average (42-for-77) with a school-record 17 doubles, three triples and 15 runs batted in (RBIs). In 82 total plate appearances, Misemer only struck out two times.

On the basepaths, she scored a team-best 30 runs and had 14 stolen bases.

“Crystal is the heart and soul of our team and the driving force behind our program’s turnaround,” Dawson said.

Moore emerged as the Tigers’ second-best hitter and top power producer during a breakthrough junior campaign.

Her batting average was .520 (26-for-50) with nine doubles and team-high tallies of three home runs and 18 RBIs.

Her slugging percentage was .880, while her on-base percentage was .623, as she drew 11 walks.

In the field, she had a perfect fielding percentage with no errors. On the basepaths, she had nine stolen bases and scored 12 runs.

Like Misemer, Moore put the ball in play. In 61 plate appearances, she only struck out five times.

“Shay is a very good offensive and defensive player for us,” Dawson said. “Over the course of the season, she was one of our best players and often was our catalyst.”

Seymour’s varsity softball program finished the 2020 fall season with a record of 11-13.

The previous high for wins in a fall season was nine.

This was Dawson’s first year as the Tigers’ head coach.

The team had only three senior members — Misemer, Karli Henry and Macey Hubbard.

Henry and Hubbard earned all-Summit Conference and all-district accolades.

Also earning all-conference and all-district honors was sophomore shortstop Lillie Rasmussen.
