In last week’s third poll of the 2021-22 season, the Missouri Basketball Coaches’ Association released state rankings for teams in Class 1 through Class 6.

For the second consecutive poll, the Seymour Tigers, led by head coach Chris Hastings, received votes; however, the Tigers weren’t ranked in the top 10.

Seymour does have a victory over a state-ranked opponent.

The Tigers defeated Chadwick 46-36 on Saturday for the championship of The Seymour Bank Winter Classic.

Chadwick is ranked ninth statewide in Class 1.

Several past or future Seymour opponents were listed as top-10 teams statewide.

In fact, of the Tigers’ three losses, two have been to state-ranked teams.

Hollister is ranked ninth in Class 4, while Hartville is the No. 6 team in Class 3.

Future Tiger opponents currently state ranked include Norwood as the No. 1 team in Class 2 and Gainesville as the eighth-ranked team in Class 2. Mansfield, another Summit Conference school on Seymour’s schedule, received votes in the Class 3 poll.

Five Summit Conference teams — Gainesville, Hartville, Mansfield, Norwood and Seymour — either were ranked or received votes in the statewide poll.

Also receiving votes was Marionville in Class 2. Earlier this season, Seymour defeated the Comets in the title game of the Marionville Invitational.

Seymour enters this week with a 11-3 record.

The Tigers met Walnut Grove in home action late Tuesday, and Seymour plays host to league opponent Conway this Friday night.

Game time is 6 p.m.

Next Tuesday, Seymour travels to Norwood for a key conference contest.
