Perhaps the largest-ever crowd for the opening day of The Seymour Bank Winter Classic was present Monday as top-seeded Seymour cruised to a 65-25 first-round decision over Dora in the eight-team varsity event.

With the 40-point win, Seymour’s record this season is at 9-3 entering Thursday’s semifinal contest against Springfield Lighthouse Christian.

The host Tigers led from the opening tip, taking an 11-2 lead only two minutes into action and were up 21-6 after the first quarter.

By halftime, Seymour’s lead was 38-11.

The Tigers led 55-21 entering the final frame.

“We did what we were expected to do,” Tiger head coach Chris Hastings said. “Dora played hard. We executed well early and got control of this game pretty quick.”

Junior guard Chade Noble led Seymour’s offensive attack with a game-high 19 points, while senior forward Bryson Benson added 12 points and a season-best 18 rebounds.

Juniors Bill Daily and Dylan Henry each scored 8, senior Ivan Whited had 6 points, while senior Payton Bryant and junior Eli Nunnally each had 5.

Junior Kason Richards rounded out the team’s scoring with 2 points as all eight members of the Tigers’ varsity rotation scored points in the lopsided decision.

Next up for the Tigers is a semifinal matchup against the aforementioned fourth-seeded Chargers of the Springfield Lighthouse Christian Academy.

Lighthouse Christian defeated Bradleyville 53-39 later on Monday night.

Game time Thursday is at 6 p.m.

Final-round action arrives on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.

The tourney’s championship contest is set for 5:30 p.m. that evening.

Seymour’s junior-varsity boys’ basketball team likely will be playing for the championship of the jayvee tourney late Friday afternoon when they take on Mountain Grove. Game time is 4 p.m.
