Funeral services for Betty Joan Harris of Marshfield and formerly of Seymour were held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Seymour. Burial followed in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of the funeral home.

Mrs. Harris, 78, died Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in her home.

She was born on April 7, 1945, in Douglas County to Roby and Bessie Cummins Myers.

She was born in Douglas County and raised in the Seymour area, where she graduated in 1963 from Seymour High School.

On June 5, 1964, she married Billy Jack Harris; together, they raised four children.

She was a hard worker all her life, starting as a waitress, working the line at Tobin-Hamilton Shoe Factory, the H.D.

Lee Company factory, Fasco Industries, Emerson, caring for clients at Oaklawn Children Care Center, Oxford Healthcare and, after retiring, worked at McDonald’s, as a nanny for the Vance family and then at the Seymour R-II School District, working with special-needs children, which she said was her most-rewarding job she ever had, retiring in 2007.

Growing up, she enjoyed her moments jigging on the Ozarks Jubilee.

In her spare time, she loved going to garage sales and creating stories to share with others.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 52 years, Jack; her grandchildren, Dara and Noah Hensley; her brother, Cleo Myers; and her sisters-in-law, Moletus, Gloria and Charlene Myers.

Survivors include her children, Billy Harris and wife Pam, Bobby Harris and wife Shelley, Steve Harris and wife Janice, all of Seymour, and Joetta Hensley and husband Steve of Quincy; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Clifford Myers of Rogersville and Kenneth Myers of Seymour.
