Graveside services for Linda Lue Cook Shanks of Seymour were held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
Mrs. Shanks, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1947, in Diggins to Huston and Helen Lucille Denny Cook.
She was raised in the Diggins and Seymour areas.
She graduated in 1965 from Seymour High School.
After high school, she married Dennis Hume and became the devoted mother of two children.
Early on, she worked at the H.D. Lee Company, then at Sweetheart Cup in Springfield.
On Dec. 23, 1990, she married David Shanks.
She retired from Sweetheart Cup after nearly 18 years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading.
Preceding her in death were here parents; her husband, David, in 2017; an infant brother, Ronald, and her other brother, Bob Cook; three sisters, Joetta Scott and her husband, Gus, Shirley Cook and Susie Ferguson and her husband, Ben; a great-granddaughter, Piper; two nephews, Michael Pirtle and Sammy Hale; a niece, Kim Hale; and Dennis Hume.
Survivors include her son, Darren Hume and wife Sherlyn of Fordland; her daughter, Jennifer Emerick of Seymour; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Janice Stott and husband David of the state of Texas; and her sister-in-law, Geraldine Cook of Seymour.
