New owners

Brothers Jeff and Rodney Rowe are the new owners of businesses previously owned by P&R Investments, including this car wash on Main Street.

Nearly 30 years ago, local businessmen Ken Pennington and Dean Rowe purchased the former Barlow Chevrolet car lot at the corner of Main and Washington streets.

A three-bay car wash was built in 1987, then storage buildings were added in 1988.

It was the beginning of Seymour’s P&R Investments Car Wash & Mini Storage.

Over the next three decades, the car wash and storage buildings were expanded.

Now they’ve sold.

Owners Ken and Peggy Pennington, Dean and Evelyn Rowe announced Monday that the new owners are the sons of the Rowes, Jeff and Rodney Rowe.

The the ownership change will be name changes, as the car wash will be renamed to Main Street Car Wash, while the storage-building business will be known as Seymour Storage.

“The apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree,” Dean Rowe said. Jeff Rowe, who lives just north of Seymour, will be the main local contact for the company’s day-to-day business operations, and Rodney Rowe, who lives in suburban St. Louis, will offer support as needed with the company’s administrative issues.

“Ken, Peggy, Dean and Evelyn would like to thank you for your patronage over the years and are confident that the quality customer service will continue,” a news release said.

What’s next for the two families?

“I’m still a city alderman in the South Ward, so I’ll still be around,” Dean Rowe said. “None of us are going anywhere.

But we can now call ourselves retired.”
