A 56-year-old Ava man sustained what the Missouri State Highway Patrol described as moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident late last month on Highway K, about two miles south of Seymour.
Patrol Trooper J.W. Philpott said Rusty L. Peterson was southbound on the state highway at 6:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, when he “fell asleep, drove off the roadway and struck a fence and a tree.”
Peterson’s 2012 Dodge Ram was a total loss and was removed from the accident scene by Yates Boys Towing of Seymour, Philpott said in his radio report.
Peterson was taken by ambulance to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, Philpott’s report concluded, adding that his truck was insured.
