In the proposed $18.2-million overpass at the city of Seymour's west edge, the U.S. 60 overpass, if built, would cross the over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks on the south side of the highway and ultimately connect to Finley Falls Road just west of Seymour.
Traffic would then head east from Finley Falls Road to Seymour, where the rural road becomes West Thoroughfare Street.
At last week's budget meeting, members of the Seymour Board of Aldermen debated the impact of the traffic from the new overpass to the city's street network.
It was determined that if the overpass is built, streets like Thoroughfare Street will need serious upgrades.
"That's the long-term impact that you all have to consider," City Administrator Hillary Gintz said.
"And this is why I keep coming back to our sewer issues. If that overpass brings growth, then that growth will need sewer service if that growth is in the city limits."
