A train-versus-truck collision at 11:50 a.m. Sunday morning claimed the life of a 73-year-old Mountain Grove woman at the Porter Crossing Road intersection with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks at the eastern edge of Rogersville’s city limits.
Killed was Joyce L. Gorsek, who was driving a southbound 2011 Ford F-350 pickup truck that was struck by an eastbound BNSF train driven by 41-year-old Jason L. Westrip of Crane.
Trooper A.M. Austin of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in his radio report that the railroad crossing had crossbuck signs.
Austin was assisted at the scene by patrol Trooper J.L. Cleeton.
Gorsek was pronounced dead at the accident scene at 2:05 p.m. Sunday by Webster County Coroner Michael Taylor, according to Austin’s report. Her body was taken to the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Seymour.
She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, the patrol report said, adding that her Ford truck was towed from the accident scene by Yates Boys Towing of Seymour.
Gorsek was the 57th fatality in the patrol’s Troop D region for 2021, Austin’s report concluded.
