- Warrant nets results

A search warrant served early Saturday evening at a home in southwest Seymour proved potent as two brothers were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

At 7:04 p.m. Saturday, eight Seymour Police Department offi cers were assisted by a pair of Webster County deputies and a city officer from Mansfield who brought a drug dog as the warrant was served at 305 South Peightel Street.

Arrested were brothers Randall “Bo” Denney and Rickey J. “Rick” Denney.

Both were booked for possession of a controlled substance, explained Sgt. Chase Davis, the Seymour Police Department’s detective, who wrote the search warrant from information gathered by several officers with the local force about ongoing recent drug use at the home.

Randall Denney also was booked for keeping or maintaining a public nuisance, according to a report filed late Saturday by Davis.

“Bo was in the back yard of the house, cooking steaks, when we first served the warrant,” Davis said. “He seemed pretty upset that the steaks were going to burn, so I actually flipped their steaks for them so they didn’t burn, and I even took them off the grill.”

He noted that four other former felons currently on probation were at the Denney brothers’ Saturday-night steak cookout. One of them was arrested and taken to jail on a pair of Springfield warrants.

“That’s not supposed to happen,” Davis said. “These folks aren’t supposed to be hanging out together.”

City officers involved in executing the search warrant were Police Chief Steven Pogue, Davis, Sgt. Gabe Stroud and patrolmen Glynn “Yogi” McGovern, Skylar McIntosh, Ray Rodriguez, Judd Taylor and Noah Wilkins.

“Several items of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia were located in the bedrooms of Randall Denney and Rickey Denney,” Davis wrote in his probable-cause statement, which was sent to Webster County Prosecuting Attorney Ben Berkstresser.

“A baggie with a white substance that tested positive for meth was located in a bureau-type desk in Rickey’s bedroom, along with a meth pipe and a metal container with methamphetamine.”

He added that inside Randall Denney’s bedroom was methamphetamine inside two straws.

“Also located was a syringe and a meth pipe,” Davis said in his report.

He said this was the third search warrant served by the Seymour Police Department at the Denney home at 305 South Peightel Street in a span of less than five years.

“The first (search warrant) was in June 2018, and the second was in May 2021,” Davis said.

“Both previous times we searched the home, methamphetamine was located.”

Davis said Randall Denney has pending charges from the city’s May 2021 search warrant.

“Both of the Denney brothers currently are on probation for prior drug charges,” his report concluded.

Saturday evening, Randall Denney and Rickey Denney were taken to the Webster County Jail in Marshfield, where they were booked and placed on a 24-hour hold.
