- Amish buggy hit Saturday on U.S. 60

According to Trooper J.W. Philpott of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident at 7:10 p.m. last Saturday, Dec. 31, which was New Year’s Eve, was the result of the buggy failing to yield to traffic.

Philpott’s radio report said the horse-drawn buggy, which was driven by 27-year-old Johnny Schwartz of rural Seymour, “failed to yield and began to cross U.S. 60” when it was struck by a westbound 2016 Nissan Altima car driven by Jasmine B. Caswell, 20, of Seymour.

Schwartz, whose buggy was northbound at the time of the accident, was taken by private vehicle to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, the patrol report said.

His injuries were reported as minor.
