The village of Diggins will celebrate its 135th Founders Day on Saturday, July 9, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., beginning with a patriotic ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the flagpole, featuring the “Pledge Of Allegiance” and the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

There will be ribbon cuttings for new path and walkway around the park and the Village Of Heart Museum, then the dedication of Walton Pavilion.

Headlining the music from 11 a.m. until noon will be Isaac Kenneth.

In the afternoon, gospel music will be provided by the Diggins Baptist Church, Greater Life Church and the “Heard Family Singers,” along with bluegrass music.

A fish fry is sponsored by the Diggins Baptist Church, an old-fashioned ice-cream social sponsored by Zion Lutheran Church and hotdogs sponsored by The Shop (all donations only for the park and recreation department) also are set on July 9.

Event organizers said this is a village reunion of all families, friends and guests of the Diggins community, “so please come and celebrate with us as we celebrate 135 years of being Diggins, Village Of Heart.”

Diggins was formed in 1887 as a community on the former San Francisco & St. Louis Railroad Company (Frisco) line that was built in south-central and southwest Missouri.
