- Anderson building falls soon

The former Anderson Street Apartments at the corner of East Anderson and North Main streets, purchased by the city at the county’s tax-lien sale in 2021, must be razed — as soon as possible.

To that end, City Administrator Hillary Elliott was told by the aldermen to begin soliciting bids for the demolition of the building, which deed records show was constructed in the 1920s.

In this week’s newspaper, the city’s request for bids has been published, giving prospective bidders until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, to submit bids for the demolition.

At that evening’s regular meeting of the Seymour Board of Aldermen, the four aldermen indicated that they plan to award the bid for the building’s immediate demolition.

Size of the abandoned structure, which has had its doors boarded shut per city safety ordinances for nearly three years, is 55 feet by 124 feet.
