When the 50th annual Seymour Apple Festival comes to the city’s downtown square for three days on Sept. 8, 9 and 10, the lineup of free musical entertainment in the gazebo at the Seymour Downtown Park and on the main stage on the square’s west side may be the strongest in festival history.
Seven groups will perform, including two on Thursday, Sept. 8, three on Friday, Sept. 9, and two on Saturday, Sept. 10, as the festival comes to town for the 50th time.
Playing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday is the gospel group “Shine” in the gazebo, while the “Finley River Boys” perform from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on the main stage.
On Friday, the free entertainment starts at 1 p.m. and continues until 3:30 p.m. with “White Oak Revival,” followed by “The Wise Guys” from 4 to 7 p.m. Both bands will play in the gazebo.
Friday night, “Members Only” plays from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the main stage. The band’s 1980s-themed performance will include an extensive light and sound show.
Saturday’s entertainment includes “Geezer, The Band” from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gazebo. That evening, the “Mark Chapman Band” plays from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on the main stage to conclude the festival.
Dan Wehmer, who with Terry Kelley booked the bands for this year’s festival, said more than $12,000 was spent on the 2022 bands, which is a record amount.
“We wanted for the 50th Seymour Apple Festival to be very special in terms of entertainment, and I feel that has been accomplished,” Wehmer said.
“The entire planning committee for the festival was on board for spending the extra money on the seven bands.”
Each year, the festival draws more than 35,000 visitors over 3 days.
