Seymour is the sixth seed at the 35th annual Spokane Invitational, an eight-team boys’ basketball tournament set for Monday, Jan. 20 through Friday, Jan. 24.
The Tigers of head coach Chris Hastings had a record of 4-6 when tourney coaches seeded the event.
“(The tourney) was seeded very early, before Christmas, before we started playing much better,” Hastings said.
“In the Walnut Grove tournament, we defeated Forsyth by double digits, and Forsyth has defeated two of the tourney’s top-two seeds earlier this season, including Blue Eye.”
Seymour’s first-round opponent is No. 3 Blue Eye, with that contest scheduled for 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday night.
All games will be played at the Spokane High School gymnasium, located just south of Nixa on Highway 160.
Host Spokane is the tournament’s top seed, followed by No. 2 Cassville. Blue Eye is seeded third, followed by Reeds Spring and College Heights of Joplin in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Seymour is the No. 6 seed, Southwest of Washburn is seventh, with Verona the eighth seed.
Win or lose in the first round, Seymour’s next game is on Thursday, Jan. 23.
With a victory over Blue Eye, the Tigers advance to the tourney’s semifinals, where an 8:30 p.m. matchup awaits against the winner of No. 2 Cassville and No. 7 Southwest of Washburn.
A loss means the Tigers play at 5:30 p.m. that same night against the loser of the aforementioned game.
Final-round action arrives Friday, Jan. 24, with games starting at 4 p.m.
