A free self-defense class at the Seymour YMCA arrives next Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The class starts at 10:30 a.m. and is sponsored by United Healthcare.
Labeled as a senior mobility and self-defense class, instruction isn't limited to senior citizens; organizers said everyone is invited.
"Enjoy a total body workout while learning to protect yourself and your loved ones," explained Guy Gerard, branch manager for the Seymour YMCA.
Instructor for the class is Cheston Doran, a law-enforcement instructor at Drury University in Springfield.
Doran teaches several classes on self defense at Drury.
More information on Doran's skill set can be found at www.peacekeeperstraining.com.
Pre-registration for next week's free class isn't required; however, it is encouraged by contacting the Seymour YMCA at 417-935-2177.
