It's official.

Eric Helms is the state's best.

At throwing out would-be base stealers, that is, as the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) recently updated its individual record-holders page for baseball, which noted that Helms, a 2019 Seymour High School graduate, now holds the state record for most runners caught stealing in a spring season.

Helms threw out 23 base stealers last spring, a new state record.

The former record holder was Logan Carter of South Pemiscot who threw out 22 in 2012.

Helms, a second-team member of the Class 2 All-State baseball team last spring, was the Tigers' four-year starting catcher.

Last spring, he threw out 23 of 45 attempted base stealers.
