Funeral services for Alma Ruth Ellis of Seymour were held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, in the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour. Burial followed in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of the funeral home.
Mrs. Ellis, 91, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Cox Medical Center South of Springfield.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1927, in Springfield to Robert Lincoln and Johanna Hosiner Napier.
She was a lifelong local resident. She was raised in Seymour and attended grade school at the Liberty School, then attended Seymour’s schools.
In 1944, she married Loyd Asher Sr.
On March 31, 1973, she married Marion Lee Ellis.
She also worked outside the home; her friendliness and gift of gab made her a popular waitress and cook for many years.
She attended the Seymour Freewill Baptist Church.
She was an excellent cook and loved to bake.
Besides sharing time with family, singing was her favorite pastime, especially older country and gospel music. Years ago, she was a singer in the “Webster County Opry” at the Rogersville Senior Citizens’ Center. She loved to regularly attend the Thursday-night singing “jam sessions” at the Rogersville Senior Citizens’ Center.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Marion Ellis; her son, David Asher Jr.; her daughter, Tamie Asher Kessinger; her sister, Bessie Johnson; and her brother, Marion Robert Napier.
Survivors include her son, Robert and wife Judy Asher of Rogersville: her four daughters, Jeannie Bogart of Mansfield, Sue Merriett of Ava, Kathy Helsley and Gerrie Riley, both of Seymour; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
