Graveside services for Johnnie Lee Carpenter of Fordland were held Tuesday, July 23, 2019, in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery, under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
Mr. Carpenter, 67, died Friday, July 19, 2019, in his home.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1951, in Marshfield to Elmer Leroy and Melba Jean Snelson Carpenter.
He was raised in Fordland.
He was a 1969 graduate of the Fordland High School.
In 1971, he began working as a maintenance planner for General Electric in Springfield.
On June 23, 1972, he married Donna Rae Simmons; to this union, one son was born.
He served for a time in the U.S. Army Reserve and continued to be a loyal employee of General Electric, retiring in 2012 after 41 years of service.
He liked to watch boxing and had fun playing cards, especially poker and Rook.
He loved to travel and went on many family trips.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his grandparents; his father-in-law, Rev. Bobby Ray Simmons; and a brotherin- law, Dr. James Cordonia.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of the home; his son, Jonathan; his sisters, Jeanette Carpenter and Beverly Cordonia, both of Springfield; his mother-in-law, Jo Simmons of Seymour; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Kastning and husband Bob of Seymour and Tresa Coday and husband Dennis of Diggins; and his brother-in-law, Chris Simmons and wife Cara of Hartville.
