Graveside services for Delbert Hal Buchanan of Seymour were held Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, in the Denney Cemetery located south of Seymour, under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.
Mr. Buchanan, 84, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1934, in Mount Zion to Ray Voin and Myrle Iola Whiteman Buchanan.
He attended Ava schools and started working for the REA of Douglas County when he was 16.
When he was 19, the Buchanan family moved to the Quad Cities for work.
On March 30, 1956, he married Anita Clair Henley; to this union, two daughters were born.
For the next 10 years, he worked for Moline Pressed Steel, a manufacturer for the famed Buddy L. Toy Company.
In 1963, the Buchanans moved back to the area.
In 1969, they purchased what is still today the family farm in rural Seymour. They dairied cows for 33 years and then raised stock cows.
In spare time, he really liked to fish, and he and Anita enjoyed riding Fox Trotters.
He attended First Baptist Church of Seymour.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Glenda Lue Buchanan; and his brother, Johnny Gene Buchanan, who was a twin to David.
Survivors include his wife, Anita, of the home; his daughter, Peggy Buchanan of Springfield; several grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his six siblings, Delta and Don Stafford, Vernon Buchanan, Lequeta and John Mackey, and her twin sister, Leveta and Jim Stewart, David and Janice Buchanan, Tony and Peggy Buchanan; his sister-in-law, Lorena and the Rev. Robert McFarland of Sun City, Ariz.; and his brotherin-
law, James Henley of Costa Rica.
