- Halloween event set on city square

After the event’s immense success of the past two years, where estimated crowds of more than 1,000 people of all ages were present, Halloween in Seymour will include a safe “Trunk-Or-Treat” celebration.

Sponsored by the Seymour Lions Club, this year’s event starts at 5 p.m. on the north side of the city square on Halloween, which arrives Thursday, Oct. 31.

“This year, we’ll award first, second and third places for the trunks that are best decorated,” said Laura Ritter of the Seymour Lions Club.

Ritter said the line up for vehicles handing out candy to children begins at 5 p.m., with the judging under way at 5:45 p.m. Cash awards for the best trunks will be presented at 6 p.m.

Trunk-Or-Treat candy distribution begins at 6 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m., she added.

At 6:30 p.m., a costume contest will be held in the gazebo at the center of the Seymour Downtown Park.

Cash and candy prizes will be awarded in three age divisions — birth to age 2, ages 3 to 6 and ages 7 to 11.

There will be three winners in each division, organizers said.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Seymour Safe Room, located at 700 East Clinton Avenue, across from the Seymour High School baseball field.

Bad weather forced last year’s Trunk-Or-Treat to be held at the city’s safe room, where large crowds attended.
