Delores Matney

Delores Matney, who filed late Monday afternoon for South Ward alderman in the city of Seymour, withdrew from the race early Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7.

Her withdrawal leaves incumbent Dan Wehmer as the only candidate for the two-year seat on the four-person Seymour Board of Aldermen.

Matney said she filed for the seat to fill the South Ward position currently held by Nadine Crisp, who entered the city’s race for mayor on Monday.

“I didn’t realize that I would be running against Dan (Wehmer) when I filed,” Matney said. “I was under the belief that I was filing for Nadine’s seat, since she was running for mayor.”

One year remains on Crisp’s term as alderman. If she wins the mayor’s race, a replacement can be appointed for the remaining year on her term. If she doesn’t win, Crisp will remain in her position in the South Ward.

Filing for the upcoming April 7 election remains open until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Candidates must file in person at Seymour City Hall.
