“The Magic Of Christmas” is the theme for this year’s annual Seymour Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Seymour Merchants’ Association.
Organizers said the parade steps off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The parade will travel around all four sides of the Seymour square.
Candy may be handed out to children by parade entries.
The merchants will award $700 in prize money for the parade’s winning floats.
“All floats need to go with the theme, and we encourage the entries to use lights for enhancement since this is a night parade,” said Bob Crump, the association’s president.
The float judging will consist of scores being given in four categories:
• Theme content, 10 points.
• General effects, 30 points.
• Design and construction, 40 points.
• Overall appearance, 20 points.
The first-place winner will receive $250, while the second-place winner gets $200. Third place earns $150, with fourth place receiving $100.
Crump said the deadline to enter floats is 5 p.m. Friday.
Parade chairmen are Charlie Haywood, Terry Kelley and Dan Wehmer, who will line up all entries, beginning at the corner of East Washington and Main streets.
The parade lineup begins around 4:30 p.m.
Float entries are urged to register for the parade by calling Crump at 417-935-4039 or Wehmer at 935-2257. There is no cost to enter to parade; all entries are welcome, organizers said.
